Sorry about the absence from Evolving Excellence. Over the last few weeks I've been working through a vision issue that has now been corrected with some successful eye muscle surgery. In fact, yesterday was the first time I was able to drive. All is good, and I should be back to normal in a couple weeks.

Two weeks ago I was in the pre-op room, waiting to be put under for a couple hours of surgery, and I had a brief chat with the young woman next to me. Turns out that she had been in Iraq and was having some *more* metal IED fragments removed from her eyes. She was the lucky one on that particular mission.

So I'm in that room because I was complaining about double vision in my lower left quadrant that made it a little difficult to read. And she's having bomb fragments removed. Just a little humbling.

That experience pretty much made this Veterans Day all the more real to me.
