Yes I know I’ve been a bit absent lately. Sorry about that. Somehow the real job… jobs... passions… keeps getting in the way of penning some rants. It’s been a busy couple months with a large building project, launching a website redesign, working on future rollout of a couple other online knowledge projects, and investigating a very interesting niche for lean that I’ll discuss at some point in the future. Toss in a significant family medical issue or two and you’ve got the recipe for, well, at least the need for a drink.
Regular readers can probably guess what comes next. Yep, another last minute trip for a few days of R&R on the remote Kohala coast area of Hawaii’s Big Island. Two or three times a year is pretty average. Not quite last minute… this time I made the reservations about six hours ahead of time. There is something incredibly liberating, at least to me, about being on a beach thousands of miles away only hours after the thought pops in your head. By myself. My schedule, no watch, no TV, no responsibilities to anyone else.
I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s how I rejuvenate mentally, spiritually, even physically. Believe it or not, while my vacation days revolve around bed, beach, book, and bar, I’m actually very productive on various side projects. Getting caught up in an undisturbed highly-efficient manner is also rejuvenating. The sound of waves and the wind through the palms, smells of ginger and hibiscus, and the warm sand and water doesn’t hurt either.
Aloha. Make sure you also take the time to recharge, whatever way works best for you.
